“Is a ‘Christian businessman’ an oxymoron?”
Wednesday 28th January 2015
Talk by Mark Hutchinson, Partner to UK and Ireland Advisory at EY
Mark shared his own personal perspective on the theology of work. Having spent the best part of his early 40’s thinking about what he would do ‘next’ - once he had finished pursuing a career in business, hehas since come to understand that his work is not a means
to an end, but the end in itself. Some of the questions he looked at included:
What does it mean to be ‘called’? Can you be ‘called to work’ in the City?
Can you reconcile the message of Christian love with working in an environment based on the profit principles of capitalism?
How does Christian faith have relevance in the workplace – where you can spend up to 70% of your waking hours during the week?
This talk was chaired by The Revd George Bush, Rector of St Mary-le-Bow
