The inaugural JustShare Lecture on Christian Social and Political Thought:
"The Kings and Prophets"
Tony Benn, the longest serving Labour MP, former Minister and former President of the Stop the War Movement.
2009 also saw the launch of the JustShare Lectures on Christian Social and Political Thought, inaugurated by Tony Benn in March who gave a wide-ranging talk to a full church. These lectures grew out of a desire to offer a forum specifically in the City for Christian thinking on social and political issues. The aim of the series was to explore how the concept of ‘justice’ has been interpreted by Christian social and political thinkers historically and what it might mean in the City and more widely today. The global economic crisis seemed to make the lectures seem even more relevant.
Mr Benn mentioned this event in his memoirs,
I had a bite to eat, had a snooze, and then went by Tube to St Mary-le-Bow in Cheapside to initiate a series of lectures called “JustShare.” It’s a Christian initiative in the City of London to persuade City people to have some moral responsibility for the poverty of others.
